Whenever you’re the speaker, someone is going to read an Introduction.

The Master of Ceremonies is probably going to grab your bio. Your bio has nothing to do with your presentation.

No one cares where you went to school, how many kids you have and the fact that you like to collect seashells has nothing to do with your presentation.

It’s your responsibility, as the speaker, to write that Introduction and you should cover three things:

Number One

WHY this subject?

Number Two

WHY this speaker?

Those are your credentials and don’t be modest here when you’re writing it.

Number Three

WHY now?

The audience is investing time, sometimes money, and definitely opportunity cost.

Opportunity cost is: I could be doing something else right now. Why is that person up there presenting? What gives them the right to talk on this subject?

Write your own introduction with those three items: WHY this subject, WHY this speaker and WHY now. and I guarantee, your next presentation will be absolutely, positively –  NO SWEAT!

Pausing is a key component of presenting.
