Multitasking cannot be done:
If they’re looking at your slides and reading bullet points-
They are not watching and listening to you.
If they are using one of your handouts and working on it –
They are not watching and listening to you.
If they’re looking at prop that you’ve used and have not put away –
They are not watching and listening to you.
We cannot multitask.
Your audience cannot multitask.
Let me prove that to you!
Watch any cable news show periodically. You’ll see a little ticker tape coming across the bottom of the screen. You’ve seen that; updates and breaking news.
If you’re reading that ticker tape, you have no idea what they’re talking about.
And to prove that, as soon as the commercial comes on, that ticker tape is gone!
Advertisers would never pay for that interruption. It would not pay for them to run the ad.
Your audience cannot multitask. Do NOT ask them to do it.
Develop practice and deliver your presentations without asking your audience to multitask and I guarantee they will be absolutely, positively – NO SWEAT!
