Speaking Without Slides: How to Make Your Words Stand Out on Their Own

Slides can be helpful.
But they should never become the presentation.
YOU are the presentation.
Too many speakers hide behind PowerPoint.
They read every bullet.
They face the screen instead of the audience.
The audience ends up watching the slides instead of listening to the speaker, and we cannot multitask.
Can you deliver your presentation if the projector quits working?
You should be able to.
Here are a few suggestions.
Know your message.
Don’t memorize every word.
Know: Your opening.
Your closing.
Your key points.
Your stories.
If you know where you’re going, you’ll never get lost.
Paint pictures with your words.
Great speakers create images in the audience’s mind.
Stories.
Examples.
Analogies.
Those are far more memorable than another bullet point on a screen.
Connect with your audience.
Look at them.
Talk with them.
Not at them.
Eye contact builds trust.
Slides don’t.
Use your body language.
People believe what they see.
Move with purpose.
Use natural gestures.
Let your enthusiasm show.
Your body language should reinforce your message—not compete with it.
Pause.
Silence is powerful.
A well-timed pause often has more impact than another slide full of words.
And remember…
The audience came to hear you - not your slides.
Technology should support your presentation.
It should never become your presentation. IF:
Your words are clear…
Your stories are memorable…
Your delivery is authentic…
Your audience won’t remember your slides.
They’ll remember YOU and your message.
Follow these ideas and your presentations will be absolutely, positively — NO SWEAT! —————————————————————————————————————————————
