Many Elevator Speeches are One-On-One.

They might be standing in line at the theater and somebody says, “What do you do?” But we’re also familiar with the Elevator Speech where you may be at a cocktail party and someone says, “What do you do?”

Here’s my EXPRESS Elevator Speech.

If I’m one-on-one at a party, and somebody says, “Fred, what do you do?” Here’s my answer:

“Thanks for asking. I’m going to answer your question by asking you one. Have you ever been to an event and you’re watching and listening to the speaker and you’re thinking to yourself, ‘Boy, that guy’s good. I mean, he is really good.”

“He’s articulate, authentic, very entertaining. Obviously, he has a passion for what he’s doing and I’m getting a lot of this presentation. Man! I wish I could do that.” “I’m the guy they hire to develop, practice, and deliver presentations like that.”

Hopefully, at that point, they hand me their card and say, “We’ve got to talk!”

If they don’t, I want to go for No, and I’ll go on and say, “Everyone who hires me knows: ‘Speaking opportunities are business, career and leadership opportunities!‘ You probably don’t know anyone who wants to improve their public speaking and presentation skills. Do you?”

And we’re done! They either do or we’re moving on.

Try the EXPRESS Elevator Speech the next time you’re one on one and somebody asks, “What do you do?” and I guarantee your next presentation will be absolutely positively – NO SWEAT!
