The Worst Speech You’ll Ever Give Is Far Better. . .

The Worst Speech You’ll Ever Give will be Far Better Than the One You Never Give!

One of the greatest fears people have is the “Fear of Public Speaking.” Up to 75% of the population suffer from this malady.  There’s even a word for it – glossophobiaGlosso from the Greek language meaning tongue and phobus, meaning fear.

You know the benefits of delivering presentations.

  1. Great speakers are perceived as Experts.

  2. Being an Expert helps your career.  Perception is reality, and we rather work with Experts – correct?

  3. Experts are also able to charge more for their services.

  4. It’s good for the ego!

It’s worth the effort to be perceived as an Expert.

There is no pill to take, movie to watch, or book to read that will instantly morph you into a dynamic presenter.  The only way to become a great speaker is to Speak

This is true of all skills, isn’t it?  If you want to be a great baker – Bake!  If you want to be a great swimmer – Swim!  Studying the subject will help, but there is no shortcut to becoming great at anything.  The learning is in the doing!

In the doing, there are going to be some failures.  The cake will fall, the swim meet will be lost and the speaker will stumble.  That’s life, that’s how we learn.  Get over it and get on with it.

What’s the very worse that could happen if you give a lousy speech? You make a fool of yourself, maybe a BIG Fool of Yourself.  So what?  Who really cares?  As long as your talk didn’t hurt someone, what’s the big deal with failing?

I’ve delivered plenty of poor presentations.

  1. No, it’s not fun.

  2. Yes, it is embarrassing.

  3. Of course, I vowed to never try it, again.

  4. Absolutely, I learned more from those terrible presentations than I ever learned from the ones where there was great applause.

When you give that terrible speech:

  1. Pick yourself up.

  2. Dust yourself off.

  3. Figure our what went wrong.

  4. Work on correcting it.

  5. Develop, Practice and Deliver another Speech.

I Guarantee: The Worse Speech You’ll Ever Give, Is Far Better than the Speech You Never Give!
