This Video is the Fourth of Nineteen about Lessening The Fear of Public Speaking!
Video Transcript
Fred Miller, “NO SWEAT Public Speaking!”
Here’s another one of my Nuggets to Lessen the Fear of Public Speaking.
Write your own Introduction.
If you’re the Speaker, it’s your responsibility to write it.
The emcee should read it as if they wrote it.
It is not your bio. No one cares who you went to school, how many animals you have, who your spouse is, what kind of stamps you collect. That doesn’t matter.
The Introduction is an opportunity to say great things about yourself. Don’t be modest here!
The emcee is going to read it. If you said those things it would seem like you’re bragging.
The Introduction should be like the king’s trumpeters blowing their horn in anticipation of the king coming to the throne. The audience should be pumped and ready to hear you!
Your Introduction should answer three questions:
Why this Subject?
Why this Speaker?
Why Now?
Let me read you an example of one of my Introductions.
Why This Subject?
“The Fear of Public Speaking holds many back from reaching their potential, personally and professionally. 75% of the population, to one degree or another, has this fear.
Why this Speaker?
“Our speaker’s first book, ‘NO SWEAT Public Speaking!’ Is being sold internationally and getting rave reviews on amazon.com.”
Locally, he has been interviewed on the NPR Channel, KMOX, the local CBS affiliate, KSDK, part of NBC, and also on FOX 2 News.
His Ladue News column, “Talking Points,” is a monthly favorite.
Why now?
“If you have this fear, or just want to improve your presentation skills, today’s speaker has a message for you!”
Help me welcome – Fred Miller!
Now, that’s the way to write an Introduction!
This stuff works!
Till next time, this is, Fred Miller – NO SWEAT!
