Writing Can Make You . . .

Updated: Feb 6

A Better Speaker!

One of the Best Pieces of Advice I was ever given about becoming a speaker was to WRITE!

I was correctly told, “Content is King!” Write lots and lots of great content! As you write, the knowledge of your subject matter grows. Eventually you become an EXPERT!

That’s a worthy goal because: •  We like to work with EXPERTS. •  EXPERTS command more money for their products and services.

I took that advice to heart. I wrote and published two paperback books, blog regularly, and have had articles published by third parties on line and articles about me in the print media.

Every time I write, I learn something new.

It takes a lot of discipline to do this regularly. However, the awards are exceptional!

My BEST Tip for improving Speaking and Writing is: Written Post + Audio Post = Better Writing and Better Speaking

Blog regularly. After you have written, edited, and re-written the post, record the audio of it. I put mine into an iTunes Podcast Channel. It is one of the best ways to be your own editor and public speaking coach.

The first time I did this, it was a very humbling experience! Even though I had edited it several times, when I listened to my podcast, I found grammatical errors. I found spelling errors. I had to rewrite some things. That helped my writing.

As I was listening, that was humbling, also! Sometimes I mumbled. Sometimes my voice faded. As painful as those revelations were, it was one of best things I’ve ever done, and I try to do it every time I write a blog post. I’ve looked at  some of my older posts done before I recorded the audio and found embarrassing errors I would have caught and corrected.

Take this concept a step further and make a Video Post. Since non-verbal communication trumps verbal communication, applying these “editing principals” to your total presentation will greatly increase your skills.

Follow this advice for Writing and improve your Speaking and Writing. Do that and I guarantee your next presentations will be absolutely, positively – NO SWEAT!
